Can you believe Thanksgiving is only a few days away? If you’re headed out of town, I’ve put together the perfect 11 piece packing list for all your Thanksgiving activities from a dressy family dinner to lounging at home.
I was lucky enough this year to be able to spend all of Thanksgiving week working from home, so I’m happily writing this post from my parent’s dinner table with my dogs at my feet.
While I normally pack a giant suitcase when heading home for Thanksgiving, this time around I had to keep things contained to a carry on and belive me it was a struggle! I honestly packed and unpacked my suitcase a few times as I tried to figure out what I could part with for the week. As always shoes are the hardest for me to part with, but of course it had to happen. Eventually I ended up with a combination of pieces that I have to say I’m pretty proud of. Maybe I’m actually starting to get good at packing light? (LOL)
Since packing light is something we all struggle with I’ve created an easy packing list of 11 pieces that will not only keep you looking cute for Thanksgiving Day, but will be cozy enough for the rest of the lazy days hanging at home!
Thanksgiving Packing List
- Knee High or Over the Knee Boots
- Booties
- Casual Sneakers
- Shirt Dress
- Long Neutral Sweater
- Chunky Neutral Sweater
- Cute Sweatshirt
- Skinny Jeans
- Leather Leggings
- Plaid Jacket
- Sherpa Coat
There are so many combos with these pieces that you can easily get through the whole week without a single outfit repeat. I’ve included a few of my favorite combinations below to start it off!
Travel Outfit
Keep things easy and comfy when traveling home by pairing your favorite jeans with a cute sweatshirt. I’ve never been a sweatshirt kind of girl, but this cute Brooklyn Sweatshirt is slightly cropped and is a major step up from your old college sweatshirt that’s seen better days. This outfit also doubles as the perfect lazy Black Friday lounging look (just add leftovers & Christmas movies). If you don’t have enough packing space switch out your sneakers for your taller boots!
Dinner With Friends (Or Casual Thanksgiving)
My number one outfit formula to look put together while also feeling super comfy is a long sweater and leather leggings! This is perfect for Thanksgiving-Eve to have dinner with friends or for Thanksgiving day if you’re headed to a more casual get-together. I also love this sherpa jacket (under $50 today!) because it can look casual or dressier depending on what you pair it with as you can tell from these photos!
Town Football Game
If you’re headed to your town’s Thanksgiving football game or just running last minute errands, start your turkey day in an easy jeans + sweater combo. Adding a festive plaid jacket is the perfect touch and the lined collar on this one will keep you warm during the game!
Thanksgiving Day
This is the perfect outfit for thanksgiving if you want to feel a bit more dressed up but still cozy and want plenty of room for an expanding stomach. Just wear your favorite loose dress underneath a sweater – The key is to make sure the proportions work correctly – Either pair your dress with a long sweater so that is just barely peaks out OR with a cropped sweater that hits you at the waist so it doesn’t look too bulky. Then pair with your over the knee or knee high boots! I’m wearing it with a coat that isn’t included in the packing list above, but you could easily pair this look with the sherpa coat OR plaid jacket!
…and a few more outfit combo ideas:
- Thanksgiving Day: Shirt Dress + Plaid Jacket + Booties
- Hanging with Friends: Chunky Sweater + Jeans + OTK Boots
- Running Errands: Long Sweater + Leather Leggings + Sneakers
- Dinner with Family: Long Sherpa Jacket + Shirt Dress + OTK Boots
